Post-modernist Serbian composer Vlastimir Trajković was born in Belgrade on 17 June 1947 into a family that had already produced two generations of musicians. He studied with Vasilije Mokranjac at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, with Andre Laporte and Witold Lutoslawski in Grožnjan, and with Olivier Messiaen in Paris.
He explored the avant-garde and made a postmodern synthesis, combined with the spirit of twentieth century French music. He also taught composition and orchestration full time at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade.
Trajković died in Belgrade on 4 January 2017, aged sixty-nine.
