<< -- 3 -- Roderic Dunnett SUMMER OPERA REVIEWS
The last, sung in Russian, was revealed to have at least the germs of
another Tchaikovsky masterpiece, with Igor Tarassov (Lionel) and the outstanding
soprano Lada Biriucov (as Jeanne d'Arc) prominent among the performers.
Massimo Gasparon both supplied the decor for and directed this thoughtful,
beautifully presented production; the conductor was Daniele Callegari. Lighting
for all three productions was by Rupert Murray, and the robust, part Czech-based
Wexford Festival Opera Chorus was joined by the National Symphony Orchestra.
