<< -- 6 -- Jennifer Paull A musical enchantress
Her performances were tapestries of language and colour, art and music.
Music was a language, a means of communication, her world. Her attention
to its detail and performance was so conscientious, that she would travel
with the décor for her Proust recital to make absolutely certain
that the stage set would give the atmosphere she needed.
Cathy Berberian died on 6th March 1983, just six months after she had
come to stay with me one last time, in Switzerland. Her footprints will
forever grace the path of those who sing or listen to the music she engendered,
or performed.
I sat, moved and sad in Lausanne, as the Orchestra de Chambre de Lausanne
premièred Berio's Requies -- in memoriam Cathy Berberian.
He knew as no one else could, how to capture the essence of this sorceress,
his Muse. I remembered with gratitude, and was moved to tears.
