<<  -- 3 --  Keith Bramich    AN EXPRESSION OF EMOTION

-------------------------------

'The pianist Jack Gibbons has been a great supporter -- he's played my pieces on many occasions, in particular my Andalusian Fantasy. Lorraine McAslan,' (who played the Violin Concerto in the BBC studio recording) 'has also played the Cuban Dance, and I've recently written a piece for her, called Mirage. She's a terrific player, very fiery and intense, and the way she identifies with my Concerto is wonderful. For me she's one of today's great violinists.'

The audience in Worcester Cathedral on 22 August 2002 will have a chance to sample this fiery intensity [listen] when Lorraine McAslan gives the first public performance of Lionel Sainsbury's beautifully crafted Violin Concerto with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Adrian Lucas. The concert begins at 2.30pm and also includes Walton's March: History of the English Speaking Peoples and Stanford's Irish Symphony.

Festival goers may like to know that Lionel Sainsbury will be giving a short informal talk at 11am on 21 August 2002 in Worcester's Kings School Theatre. The Three Choirs Festival runs from 17 until 23 August, and other highlights include the Coronation Ode by Elgar, Let thy Hand be Strengthened and The King Shall Rejoice by Handel, and Walton's First Symphony.
