Leopold Hofmann: Flute Concertos Vol 2 (c) 2002 HNH International Ltd

Amongst eighteenth century composers, Leopold Hofmann is not well known to the twenty-first century. Naxos have recorded the eight flute concertos, of which four are on this disc, gracefully played by Kazumori Seo as soloist.

Hofmann has no pretence, composing straightforwardly with thematic material a simple phrase or so, and development elegant and yet precise. And with that a composer and his musical gestures provided comfortable musical sustenance for the eighteenth century ear.

Performance, like the music, is unadorned and pleasurable.
