Stroma commissions of this sort are funded by Creative New Zealand; a body somewhat like the England's Arts Council or America's Endowment for the Arts. But the costs of presenting non-New Zealand music are paid for by commercial sponsorship.

These latter have included Austrian Karlheinz Essl's Entsagung (1993) in an Ilott Concert Chamber presentation titled 'Atmospheric and Ambient Chamber Music'; during March 2001. Fellow Austrian Olga Neuwirth's Hooloomooloo (1996-97) was heard in February 2002 as part of the 2002 New Zealand Festival.
