'Honey, I hate to tell'ya, but it's all lip-synched'

Last fall the poor singer Ashlee Simpson was pilloried when her lip-synching was revealed by mistake on Saturday Night Live. The young singer was lampooned and derided for her obvious 'fakery'. Some called her basic abilities into question, others merely attacked the abuse of 'seeming' to give a performance.

Poor Ashlee. She got caught for what actually isn't far from the norm.

Does anybody recall the Britney Spears Saturday Night Live appearance when her head-secured microphone started sliding around her face? She tried desperately to reposition it while continuing the tricky dance steps and 'singing' that the performance required. The next week a 'serious' rock-and-roll band announced they were 'really' live, 'not like Britney'.

Or, does anyone remember that when the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan's TV show and launched their invasion of America, there were no cables from their guitars to any amplifiers? This little glitch is also a sign of the abhorred lip-synch.

So poor Ashlee was being mocked for a long standing, and frequent practice.
