Pierre D'Archambeau

Prizewinning American violinist Pierre D'Archambeau was born on 3 April 1927 to Belgian musician parents at Yverdon in Switzerland. He started piano lessons at four, violin lessons at seven and gave his first violin recital in the USA at the age of nine.

D'Archambeau played the Daniel Parker violin of circa 1715, which was left to him by Fritz Kreisler. As well as Kreisler, D'Archambeau worked with Nadia Boulanger, Pablo Casals, Jacques Thibaut and Arturo Toscanini.

His huge repertoire included over fifty concertos, the Paganini Caprices, J S Bach's Sonatas and Partitas, and the six Ysaÿe sonatas.

He died at home in Massachusetts on 16 June 2014.
