Swiss theatre and film director Luc Bondy was born in Zurich on 17 July 1948. He studied with Jacques Lecoq in Paris and began working as an assistant at Hamburg's Thalia Theatre, then took over at Berlin's Schaubühne in 1985.
He produced plays and operas at the Salzburg Festival, and was director of a controversial production of Puccini's Tosca at New York Metropolitan Opera.
He died on 28 November 2015, aged sixty-seven.
