Nicolas Bacri

French composer Nicolas Bacri was born in Paris on 23 November 1961. He studied piano from the age of seven, and when a teenager was learning harmony, counterpoint, analysis and composition. Later, his teachers at the Paris Conservatoire included Marius Constant and Michel Philippot.

Graduating in 1983, he undertook a two year residency at the Académie de France à Rome, where he met Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi.

Following four years as head of chamber music for Radio France, he has since (from 1991) concentrated on composition, and his output includes at least six symphonies, eight string quartets and twenty-seven concerti. Recordings of Bacri's works can be found on AR, BISBlue Griffin, RCA-BMG, Naxos and Triton.
