Terezija Broka

Latvian conductor and teacher Terēzija (or Terēze) Broka was born in Viļāni, Rēzekne, Latgale (in the east of Latvia) on 30 September 1925. She studied at the Latvian State Conservatory.

She moved to Daugavpils, where she worked as a teacher in the music college, and conducted many choirs in the Latgale region. She was the chief conductor at three successive Latvian Song and Dance Festivals, made a significant contribution to preserving the tradition of Latvian Song and Dance Celebrations, and also took part in various foreign competitions and festivals.

She was awarded the Order of the Three Stars in 1995 for her work promoting Latgalian culture.

Terēzija Broka died on 22 October 2018, aged ninety-three.
