Romanian baritone Dan Iordăchescu was born in Vânju Mare on 2 June 1930. He studied in Iaşi, Bucharest, Salzburg, Paris and Rome.
He took on over forty-five operatic roles, sang on the world's most prestigious stages, and in sixty-one countries, winning several awards. He also taught singing at the Academy of Music in Bucharest. Two of his daughters, Cristina and Irina, became opera singers.
Iordăchescu died on 30 August 2015, aged eighty-five, following a long illness.
