Jules Eskin

American cellist Jules Louis Eskin was born in Philadelphia on 20 October 1931. He played for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, had seven years with New York City Opera, and spent three years with the Cleveland Orchestra in the George Szell era.

Then, from 1964 and for over fifty years, he was principal cellist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, where he gave solo performances of well-known works by Barber, Beethoven, Brahms, Fauré, Haydn and William Schuman, under five successive music directors. He also played for the Boston Symphony Chamber Players.

Jules Eskin died from cancer at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts on 15 November 2016, aged eighty-five.
