Aram Gharabekian

Armenian conductor Aram Gharabekian was born in Iran on 7 July 1955 and studied in Boston, USA, at the New England Conservatory, and then at Mainz University in Germany. He studied conducting with Franco Ferrara and Sergiu Celibidache, and was also a composition and conducting student of Jacob Druckman and Leonard Bernstein at Tanglewood.

His appointments included artistic director and principal conductor of the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, founder and conductor of the Boston SinfoNova Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the NRCU Symphony Orchestra in Kyiv, artistic advisor and conductor of the Ukrainian National Symphony Orchestra, and principal guest conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic. He also conducted orchestras in Germany, China and the USA.

Aram Gharabekian died in Los Angeles on 10 January 2014, aged fifty-eight.
