Roberto Gabbiani

Italian choral conductor and chorus master Roberto Gabbiani was born in Prato in 1947.

In 1974 he became choir master of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. From 1990 until 2002 he directed the choir at La Scala Milan.  He directed choirs at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome (2002-6), and Teatro Regio in Turin (2008-10). Since 2010 he has been choir director at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.

He has rediscovered various sixteenth and seventeenth century Italian works and also contributed to the formation of the Giacinto Scelsi vocal ensemble which researches contemporary music.
