Susan Graham

American mezzo-soprano Susan Graham was born in Roswell, New Mexico on 23 July 1960 and grew up in Midland, Texas. She studied at Texas Tech University and at the Manhattan School of Music.

She is an expert in French song repertoire and also in contemporary American song, including the output of Lowell Liebermann and Ned Rorem.

Operatically, she first appeared internationally at Covent Garden in the title role of  Massenet's Chérubin. She has also created various roles in contemporary operas, including Jordan Baker in John Harbison's The Great Gatsby, Sister Helen Prejean in Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking and Sondra Finchley in Tobias Picker's An American Tragedy.
