Vagn Holmboe

The Danish composer Vagn Holmboe was born in Jutland on 20 December 1909 and lived until 1 September 1996. Following studies in Copenhagen and Berlin, he travelled in Romania, studying folk music, and the Romanian and Danish folk idioms are present in his music. Amongst his output are thirteen symphonies and twenty string quartets.
