Antonis Kontogeorgiou

Greek choral conductor, baritone and author Antonis Kontogeorgiou was born in 1945 in Thessaloniki, where he studied at the State Conservatory, and later in Munich, Salzburg and Zurich.

In 1977 he was invited to set up a choir for ERT - Greek Radio and Television - and remained director of the choir for thirty-two years, giving the first Greek performances of many works, and travelling abroad extensively. He is also the dedicatee of various works by Greek composers.

He taught music at various conservatories, wrote books and articles on choral music and sat on the boards of artistic and musical institutions.

Antonis Kontogeorgiou died on 1 October 2018, aged seventy-three.
