Hans Keller

'Art arises where the arbitrary and the predictable are superseded by unpredictable inevitability.' - Hans Keller, Music Survey

Music writer and critic Hans Keller was born in Vienna on 11 March 1919 and died in London on 6 November 1985. He was with the BBC Music department for thirty years, admired by some and disliked by others for his forthright stand on many aspects of music. He invented his own functional analysis in which music was analysed purely in musical sound. His passion for football was as important to him as music.
