Ivan Karabits

Ukrainian composer and conductor Ivan Fedorovych Karabits was born in Yalta on 17 January 1945 and studied with Borys Lyatoshynsky and Myroslav Skoryk at the Kiev Conservatory, where he later taught.

Karabits was conductor of the Kiev Camerata and the Kiev Military District Dance Ensemble. He wrote music for various combinations of instruments, including voice, solo piano, voice and piano, and orchestra.

Karabits died in Kiev on 20 January 2002, aged fifty-seven. His son Kirill Karabits is also a conductor.
