Bent Lorentzen

Danish composer Bent Lorentzen was born in Stenvad on 11 February 1935. He studied musicology at university in Aarhus and at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, later teaching at the music academies in both cities. His teachers included Knud Jeppesen and Vagn Holmboe.

He was an early pioneer in Danish electronic music, but also wrote orchestral music, chamber music and many choral works, but his most important music is considered to be his operas and other stage works.

His music is frequently performed internationally, and he established close links with Poland and Germany. He won several international prizes and was 1989 Choral Composer of the Year in Denmark.

He was one of the main figures of contemporary Danish music until his death on 3 October 2018, aged eighty-three.
