The Italian avant-gardist Bruno Maderna was born in Venice on 21 April 1920. He was also noted as a teacher and conductor, and with Luciano Berio founded an electronic studio for Italian Radio in 1955. He died in Darmstadt, Germany, on 13 November 1973.
