Florian Mitrea

Romanian pianist Florian Mitrea was born in Bucharest in 1989, and began piano studies at the age of six with Flavia Moldovan, later learning with Gabriela Enasescu at the George Enescu Music High School. After winning various prizes, he was a awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied with Diana Ketler. He has also worked with Leif Ove Andsnes, Stephen Kovacevich, John Lill, Pascal Devoyon, Joanna MacGregor, Angela Brownridge and Boris Petrushansky.

Since moving to the UK he has continued to win competitions, including the Vienna International Piano Competition - Panmusica Austria 2010, the 2010 Beethoven Senior Intercollegiate Piano Competition and the Sheepdrove Intercollegiate Piano Competition 2011.

He was awarded the Enescu Society Scholarship 2010/2011 by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, and is a member of the Romanian Association for Culture, Education and Normality, involved with projects promoting Romania's cultural and spiritual heritage.
