German operatic soprano Lisa Otto was born in Dresden on 14 November 1919, the daughter of bass Karl Otto. She studied with Susanne Steinmetz-Prée at Musikhochschule Dresden and then worked at the Landestheater in Beuthen (now Bytom in Poland) from 1941-4, making her debut as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. Her career continued in Nuremberg (1944-5), Dresden (1945-51) and then she began a thirty year career with Berlin State Opera. She also guested with Vienna State Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Paris Opera, Teatro alla Scala and at the Salzburg Festival.
She's best known for Mozart soubrette roles, but also took part in Henze and Klebe premieres.
Lisa Otto died in Berlin on 18 September 2013, aged ninety-three.
