Spanish composer Manuel Oltra was born in Valencia on 8 February 1922.
He was professor of music at the Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Barcelona from 1959 until he retired in 1987.
He wrote extensively, in many different genres, including symphonic, choral, chamber and music for the traditional Catalunyan ensemble, the Cobla. He also harmonised traditional songs for various vocal and instrumental groups.
In 2010 he was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi by the Catalan government for his work in religious music.
Manuel Oltra died in Barcelona on 26 September 2015, aged ninety-three.
