Mary Plazas

Soprano Mary Plazas was born on 9 September 1966. She studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Ava June, winning the Curtis Gold Medal, at the National Opera Studio, and has also worked on interpretation with Swiss tenor Eric Tappy in Geneva.

She made her operatic debut in 1992 as the Heavenly Voice in Verdi's Don Carlos. Her roles have included Mimì, Anne Trulove, Donna Elvira, Nedda and Cio-Cio-San, plus the title role in The Cunning Little Vixen. She has also created two roles in Jonathan Dove operas - Tina in Flight and the Blue Fairy in Pinocchio.

She has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Chandos Records and Opera Rara, and also gives solo recitals and concerts.
