Baritone and concert director Julius Stockhausen was born in Paris on 22 July 1826. One of the first of a new class of singer specialising in oratorio and recitals. Brahms wrote the baritone part in Ein Deutsches Requiem and the Magelone-Romanzen for Stockhausen. Stockhausen died in Frankfurt on 22 September 1906.
