Lalo Schifrin

Argentinian-American arranger, composer, conductor and pianist Boris Claudio Schifrin was born in Buenos Aires on 21 June 1932. He studied piano with Enrique Barenboim and Andreas Karalis, and harmony with Juan Carlos Paz, then at the Paris Conservatoire. Back in Argentina, his jazz orchestra appeared weekly on Buenos Aires TV, and he arranged for Dizzy Gillespie and for Xavier Cugat's Latin dance orchestra.

In 1963 Lalo Schifrin moved to Los Angeles. He writes in various styles, including classical, jazz, bebop, bossa nova and rock, and is best known for his theme in 5/4 for the Mission Impossible TV series. He writes extensively for TV and film.
