Hungarian composer Sándor Szokolay was born into a Lutheran evangelical family at Kunágota on 30 March 1931. After initial study in Békéstarhos he went to Budapest to study at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music with Ferenc Szabó and Ferenc Farkas.
Szokolay worked at the music department of Hungarian Radio and was a professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
He died on 8 December 2013, aged eighty-two.
