Award-winning Swiss conductor and composer Michel Tabachnik was born in Geneva on 10 November 1942, and studied piano, composition and conducting there. In his early years he was a protégé of Igor Markevitch, Herbert von Karajan and Pierre Boulez. He records for Erato and Lyrinx.
For about ten years he was implicated in encouraging the collective suicides of members of the Ordre du Temple Solaire, but Swiss and French courts eventually cleared him of all participation.
From 2005 until 2011 he was chief conductor of the Noord Nederlands Orkest, and in 2008 he was appointed chief conductor / artistic director of the Brussels Philharmonic.
