Pompeiu Hărăşteanu

Romanian basso profondo Pompeiu Hărășteanu, known for his low and powerful voice and for roles such as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte and Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, was born on 14 September 1935 and studied at the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in Bucharest. From 1968 until 1972 he worked as a soloist for Opera Bonn, and from 1972 he was a soloist with Romanian National Opera in Bucharest.

Hărășteanu died on 5 October 2016, aged eighty-one.
