Robert Weisz

Romanian-born pianist and teacher Robert Weisz was born to Hungarian parents at Arad on 25 June 1925. He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest with Annie Fischer and Béla Böszörmenyi-Nagy, at the Geneva Conservatoire with Dinu Lipatti (winning first prize in the Geneva International Competition for Musical Performers), in Paris with Nadia Boulanger and in London with Myra Hess. He took Swiss nationality in 1963 and Canadian in 1975, settling in Quebec. He formed a two-piano team with Jeanne Landry and made several recordings with cellist Paul Tortelier. His pupils included Jacinthe Couture and Michel Franck. Weisz died on 11 June 2013, aged eighty-seven.
