Christophe Mangou

26 year old French conductor Christophe Mangou won the 2002 Donatella Flick Conducting Competition at a presentation following the competition's final concert on 1 October 2002 at London's Barbican Hall. The award was presented by the Duke of Kent.

Mangou studied percussion and won the Prix du CNSM, mention Très Bien à l'unanimité in Janos Fürst's orchestral conducting class at the Paris Conservatoire. He was also a prize-winner in the 1998 Austro-Hungarish Competition and the 2001 International Pedrotti Competition in Trento, Italy. Since September 2001 he has assisted Sebastian Lang Lessing at Nancy Opera House.

Three participants were featured in the final concert with the London Symphony Orchestra. The runners-up were Finnish conductor Dmitri Slobodeniouk (aged 27), who has appeared with most of the major Finnish orchestras, and 31 year old Ivan Meylemans from Belgium, who won the Vakhtang Jordania International Conducting Competition in the Ukraine in September 2002. The judges were Mauro Bucarelli, Jane Glover, Andrew Marriner, Leif Segerstam and Vassily Sinaisky.
