Leipzig Choral Festival

UK based tour operator Casterbridge Tours has joined forces with the city of Leipzig to launch an innovative International Choir Festival taking place in July 2008, providing an opportunity for choirs from the UK and around the world to explore and engage together in one of the most musically dedicated cities in Europe. At a recent press conference in Leipzig City Hall, Casterbridge's chairman and founder, Michael Bromfield, said 'I am convinced there is no other city in Europe that offers so much as Leipzig as a host city, for what we know will grow into one of the world's great choral festivals. Leipzig is the city of Bach, Mendelssohn and Wagner, and deservedly triumphed over a selection process that involved bids from thirteen European cities.'

Concerts will take place at the Gewandhaus, St Nicholas Church and other historical venues. Choirs from UK, Germany, USA and around the world will perform together in international friendship concerts under the direction of conductor Jonathan Willcocks. Leipzig's deputy mayor of culture, Georg Girardet, stated: 'We are certain this will grow into an annual event that will be one of Europe's musical highlights, and I am pleased to confirm that arrangements for the second festival in July 2009 are already in place'. Choral groups interested in taking part in the 2009 festival should visit the site below for further information.
