New York Empire Trio

The New York Empire Trio has been named May 2009 Featured Artist by Obama Music Arts and Entertainment. This is in honor of the Trio's recent world première performance at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall of Fanfare for Obama - a new work created by Bulgarian composer Roumi Petrova in honor of the historic election of President Barack Obama.

Reviewer Christopher Kaufman wrote of the piece: 'Fanfare was true to its dedication, positive uplifting themes, heroic melodies and pulsating rhythms all unifying to express a hopeful message. It is a short bright and happy piece and gave the performers an opportunity to demonstrate another facet of their musicianship.'

New York Empire Trio members Hristo Popov, violin, Kalin Ivanov, cello and Joshua Pierce, piano, are winners of many distinguished awards and have had prominent careers.

Hristo Popov is a prizewinner at the Kozian International Violin Competition, Silver Medalist at the California Young Artist Competition, winner of the Grand Prize at the International Institute of Music (Germany, USA), and first place at the American String Teachers' Association Chamber Music Competition.

Kalin Ivanov is a prominent cello soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and recording artist who performs with 'dramatic urgency and expressive tone' (The Strad, London). A winner of the C W Post Chamber Music Festival Concerto Competition, he has performed in major performing centers in Europe and the United States.

Grammy-nominated pianist Joshua Pierce has performed with many orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia, Moscow State Philharmonic and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has recorded over two hundred works for MSR Classics, EMI Classics, Koch International Classics, Sony Classics, Vox and other labels.

Future plans include concerts in Washington DC, including the Phillips Collection Series, a Summer tour in Europe and South America, and recording of a CD for MSR Classics.
