Call for scores

'As a soloist, Arceci displayed a thick, metallic tone in the lower register with throaty, well-placed high notes. L'Acadé'mie in turn followed his cues with precision and nuance to the work's forlorn end.' - A Sammut, The Boston Musical Intelligencer, February 2012

New Works for Unaccompanied Viola da Gamba are requested. The opportunity is open to composers of any age, nationality, etc.

Selected works will be recorded by violist da gamba Andrew Arceci, featured on a CD devoted to new music for viola da gamba, and presented in concerts throughout the USA, UK and Thailand. Additionally, each successful composer will be given ten copies of the CD.

Works submitted should be original, unpublished and composed for an acoustic seven-string viola da gamba. Works should be 3-5 minutes in duration, and submitted anonymously: rather than signing works by name, composers should list a telephone number with international code. A shortlist of numbers (composers) will be called to discuss their submissions, but a phone call will not guarantee that a composition has been selected.

A non-refundable USD 20 or GBP 10 cheque, money order or bank transfer (per score) should be submitted with your score. If you would like your score(s) returned, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope. However, for anonymity, scores should only include the telephone number with international code.

All materials should be received by 20 September 2013; electronic submissions will be accepted (and questions can be sent to vdg.scores@gmail.com) but applicants are encouraged to send materials to:
