Summer Sings

New York Choral Society presents its 55th annual Summer Sings, 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings in July 2015 at Symphony Space in the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater, 2537 Broadway, 95th Street, New York, NY, USA. Individual sings cost US$20.

Four prominent choral conductors from the NYC area will lead audience members through popular works, with New York Choral Society providing scores, accompaniments, soloists and air conditioning.

The 2015 series features Gilbert and Sullivan favourites, including excerpts from H M S Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado (1 July, with the New York Choral Society conducted by David Hayes), Mozart's Requiem and Ave Verum Corpus (8 July, with Essential Voices USA and Omaha Symphony Sacred Voices Concerts, conducted by Judith Clurman), Italian night, with excerpts from Verdi's Requiem and a selection of opera choruses (15 July, conducted by Michael Ciavaglia), excepts from Handel's Messiah and selected Christmas carols (22 July, with The Oratorio Society of Queens, conducted by David Close) and German classics including the Brahms German Requiem and music by Strauss, Weber, and Wagner on 29 July, with the New York Choral Society and conductor David Hayes.

New York Choral Society, founded in 1958, has become known by audiences and critics for the quality of its performances and the diversity of its repertoire, which encompasses well-known choral masterworks as well as many compositions rarely heard in concert halls. The society has presented eleven world premieres and has commissioned works by Paul Alan Levi, Morton Gould, Stephen Paulus and Robert De Cormier.
