OgreOgress Productions

OgreOgress Productions is an unique and dedicated nucleus of total commitment to its cause in bringing Cage's philosophy to life. There isn't one dead fish in sight. These musicians swim against the tide with perseverance for which I applaud their devotion and ardour. - Jennifer Paull

OgreOgress Productions, founded in 1996, is an esoteric record label based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA which specialises in rare contemporary and twentieth century classical works by composers including John Cage, Morton Feldman, Alan Hovhaness and Arnold Schoenberg. The OgreOgress philosophy includes projects of benefit to Tibetans in exile, rejecting the SACD format in favour of DVD Audio and giving music a higher priority than money. Read more about various OgreOgress John Cage releases in Jennifer Paull's review, The Philosophy of Absence.

The company has recently encountered some operating difficulties - their digital distribution contract was dropped by Naxos America, and the director has had various personal and health problems. In spite of this, all twenty-nine existing recordings should be available for download via iTunes and Amazon.com by the end of June 2015, and the current project, a fourth disc of music by Alan Hovhaness, already fully recorded and about 30% mastered, should be complete by the end of 2015. This is to be followed by a David Kotlowy disc (fully recorded but unmastered) and a new project of previously unrecorded works by Morton Feldman.
