George Colerick
Music & Vision contributor George Colerick gave a talk entitled A Century of Beautiful Melodies - 1814-1914 on Tuesday evening, 23 February 2016, at the Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation's Leisure Centre, 446 Fulham Road, London SW6 1DT, UK. This illustrated talk included music by Bizet, Léhar, Meyerbeer, Offenbach and Saint-Saëns. George Colerick is a writer and publisher living in London, who has often visited other capital cities to hear a large range of music. His interests include musicology, humour in music, north-west Europe, sociology and AFC Bournemouth. His books include Romanticism and Melody (in two volumes), and From The Italian Girl to Cabaret, a specialised study in musical humour. His M&V articles investigate the emotional life of Brahms in his twenties, Massenet and femmes fatales, Meyerbeer and the Development of Parisian Grand Opera, George Bernard Shaw as London Music Critic, Berlin Theatre entertainer Wolfgang Ostberg and Bizet and the Nazis.
