'... a programme to which it is well worth giving time.'

Austin Moorhead - Adagio. © 2009 Soundset Recordings

As promotions go, this is a quite successful fifty five minutes of impressive guitar playing by a young American performer who has acquired a few notable local prizes to support the endeavour, among which an East Carolina University summer school award, an American String Teachers Association prize in 2007 and a prizewinning place in the National Guitar Foundation competition in 2008. Perhaps more interesting than the publicity spin is the fresh repertoire he has chosen for this début disc, two of the six titles (Mortagne and Mallamud) being first recordings.
