Hlíf Sigurjónsdóttir studied violin at the Universities of Indiana and Toronto and at the Banff School of Fine Arts. Later she took private lessons with violinist and teacher Gerald Beal in New York.

Through these years she was fortunate enough to work with many of the leading musicians of the twentieth century, among them William Primrose, Zoltán Székely, György Sebök, Rucciero Ricci and Igor Oistrach.

'Ólafsson saw these compositions as the violinist's Bible, and I was fortunate enough to play them all under his guidance. In addition, my last teacher, Gerald Beal, a student of Heifetz, has left his mark on my artistic approach as well with his inventive fingering solutions and a clear musical .....
