Ask Alice, with Alice McVeigh

The 24 April 2010 matinée performance
of Folger Theater's 'Hamlet',
recommended by classical music agony aunt ALICE McVEIGH

Ask Alice

AliceI had no sooner sat down when a good-looking young man in his twenties appealed to me to settle a point with his girlfriend. 'Is Hamlet a comedy or a tragedy?'

I do not pretend to be a Shakespearean expert, but I could answer that one succinctly, upon which the girlfriend leaned forward rather anxiously, 'Do a lot of people die?'
