Because of the length of the piece, the Metropolitan Opera's live in HD transmission of Modest Mussorgsky's epic historical opera Boris Godunov started at noon in New York on 23 October 2010. That was nine o'clock in the morning in Arizona. Since the unreserved seats fill up an hour before the show starts, a long line of people had formed outside the theater as early as 7.45am. Many of those people were aged and infirm, but operagoers are a hardy lot and they brought not only wheelchairs, but also canes and walkers with seats attached.
