The Derwent Singers, heard by MIKE WHEELER

 

Just as the Sitwell Singers did two weeks before, The Derwent Singers juxtaposed two baroque composers with later figures influenced by them (St Mary's Church, Derby, UK, 11 November 2010).

Bach and Brahms, again, formed one of the pairs. Bach's motet Lobet den Herrn was launched with bright tone, and in Komm, Jesu, komm there was a feel for purposeful but unhurried pacing and sustained lines...
