This recording came my way fifteen years ago in its LP incarnation. Saint-Saëns remains fluent as ever, and I still marvel, as I did then, that the organ part for the symphony was recorded on a separate occasion from the rest of the music, and in a separate building. The technical problems involved and their apparently happy solution are quite beyond me...
