On Sunday afternoon 9 January 2011, The Los Angeles Philharmonic launched its first high definition, live transmission of a concert to four hundred and fifty cinemas across the United States. The Metropolitan Opera has done very well with its five years of live and encore movies and it is now making money from the project. The question is whether or not an orchestra, which has much less visual interest despite its matinée idol conductor, can have the same outcome...
