Produced by the Canadian Music Centre, a Canadian marimbist plays works by Canadian composers -- musical flag-waving perhaps, but exactly the sort of thing that national Music Centres are there to do, and one always hopes for the new and interesting out of such ventures.

Do we get it? As with so many such enterprises, the answer must be 'partly'. The opening track, Christien Ledroit's Night Chill, rather belies its own title, mixing electronic sound with the marimba. This sometimes creates atmospheres appropriate to the title, at other times it seems intrusive and counter to the marimba part, which is usually more active than one might expect...
