MALCOLM SMITH (1932-2011)
A celebration, not an obituary,

When Lisa Peacock told me on 1 March 2011, I was just bowled over. Apparently Malcolm had been suffering from cancer for some time, and I remembered back to late last year when I was seated in the Wigmore Hall and heard, suddenly, the all familiar cough somewhere behind me. Sure enough, it was Malcolm chatting up someone. I looked for him during the interval, but was unable to locate him. Probably he was downstairs, downing a large jar of something, but had evidently moved on...
