Britten: Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings; Winter Words; Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo. Peter Pears, Benjamin Britten, Dennis Brain. © 2010 Regis Records

These recordings date from long ago, though nowhere does the CD admit the fact. Most of us remember that Britten died in 1976, fewer that Eugene Goossens died five years earlier, and perhaps fewest of all that Dennis Brain was killed in a car accident five years earlier than that. It is the Serenade, middle work of the three, that has shown least sign of disappearing from the repertoire...
