A Deep Impression

Rory Macdonald conducts the Hallé Orchestra,
heard by MIKE WHEELER

 

Rory Macdonald made a deep impression as the Hallé's Assistant Conductor a couple of years ago, and he returned to conduct them in this final concert in the Royal Concert Hall's 2010-11 subscription series (Nottingham, UK, 27 May 2011).

The textural clarity he and the orchestra brought to Sibelius's Pohjola's Daughter was revelatory. The Hallé's now regular left-right placing of the first and second violins opened up the sound to a remarkable degree...
